Become a Penpal!

The Prisoner Correspondence Project aims to match up non-incarcerated queer, gay, and trans-identified folks to correspond with folks identifying along similar lines behind bars. By becoming a penpal you can help create relationships of friendship, support, and solidarity between inside and outside folks and help break isolation for incarcerated members of our communities.

Interested in becoming involved? Check out the documents below (in English et en français) and then get in touch:

Other Ways to Get Involved

* OUTREACH INSIDE PRISONS – We are in the process of stepping up our outreach efforts into prisons across Canada. If you have any contacts with people or organizations that do work on the inside, and would be willing to put us in touch, that would be great. Contacts with people who work within prisons can also be useful in this regard.

* OUTREACH TO OUTSIDE PENPALS – Our current waiting list for folks on the inside is 3 – 6 months when it was once about 6 weeks. If you know of others who are interested in becoming a penpal, please put them in touch with us!

* TRANSLATION – In order to better make inroads into Quebec prison, we are always in need of translation and translators (English to French), both for day to day admin / correspondence, as well as longer term translation of our resources for the resource library. Please get in touch if you are interested in helping out with this very important aspect of the project.

* SPECIAL PROGRAMMING – We often need additional help when putting together special events, such as film screenings, workshops, and panel discussions. Please get in touch if you would like to know more about programming currently under way or if you have other ideas about how you or your organization could support the Prisoner Correspondence Project.
